Foxtel and Seven West Media's streaming service, Presto, has announced a partnership with Samsung that will see the Presto app made available on selected smart TVs from the company.
According to the announcement, owners of Samsung's smart TVs from 2012, 2013 and 2014 can download the Presto app for free from Samsung's app store, with support for the 2015 models coming soon.
The release of the app represents the first native smart TV app to be launched by one of Australia's new subscription streaming services, with both Presto and rival Stan previously only available on television sets via an additional device, like the T-Box, Google Chromecast or the Apple TV. This contrasts with the much longer list of devices that have a native Netflix app, as while Netflix is new in Australia, it has been around for a while elsewhere, allowing it have apps available for a wide range of devices, from game consoles (PS3/PS4, Xbox 360/One, Wii/Wii U) to smart TVs like the ones from Samsung.
For many, the bigger screen experience of watching Presto will be much more attractive than watching on tiny (by comparison) smartphone screens or tablets, a fact backed up by Shaun James, Director of Presto and On Demand.
“The big screen experience for Presto has proven to be incredibly popular since we arrived on Chromecast, and we’re thrilled to announce direct availability on a range of Samsung’s Smart TVs. We look forward to continuing our roll-out to living room big screens over the coming months so more and more Presto subscribers can enjoy our great content on the largest screen in the house,” says James.
A Presto Movies subscription is available for $9.99 a month and gives subscribers access to thousands of hours of ad-free movies. A Presto TV subscription for $9.99 a month enables access to a library of old and new TV shows, or get the best of both worlds with the Presto Entertainment bundle subscription for $14.99 a month.
Limited Time Offer: Here's a deal to get a free 6 month subscription to Presto Entertainment (valued at $89.94)
