Foxtel has detailed new incentives for Presto subscribers who are staring into streaming oblivion when the service shuts down at the end of January 2017.
Presto has already announced that the streaming service will cease to operate come the end of January 2017, with billing to stop after 28 December. Those on a trial account or those whose billings dates fall after the December cut off will be able to enjoy Presto until the end of January without incurring any further payment. So while some users may get to enjoy an extra month of free Presto, come February, all will have to look for a new source of entertainment.
Those not jumping ship to Netflix or Stan now have another option - Foxtel Play. The revamped Foxtel Play service now has five different entry level tiers - Pop, featuring the most popular Foxtel channels and includes HBO (Game of Thrones) and FX (The Walking Dead); Drama; Lifestyle; Docos and Kids. These are available normally for $10-15 per month. Users can then add Sports for $25 and Movies for $20. Foxtel Play is available across a variety of devices, including eligible Samsung, Sony and LG Smart TVs, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 & 4, selected Samsung Blu-ray and home theatre systems, PC and Mac computers and via Telstra TV.
As an incentive for Presto subscribers, Foxtel, the owners of Presto, is giving all Presto subscribers a $60 discount if they subscribe to the Pop tier with the Movies add-on pack. While this would normally cost $35 per month ($15 for Pop plus $20 for Movies), Presto subscribers, will only need to pay $15 for the first three months, in essence getting the Movies pack for free during that time. Those that switch will also get a free 2 week trial of Foxtel Play included.
While Foxtel Play is still mainly a broadcast service, all subscribers, including those that switch over, will have access to the on-demand Foxtel Anytime service that allows users to stream content from their subscribed channels on a variety of devices.
Presto subscribers will receive a promo code which they can use on this page on the Foxtel website to access their special discount plan.
