Once again, we compare the streaming performance Amazon's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" and HBO's "House of the Dragon" thanks to data collected by streaming search engine JustWatch (data includes subscription streaming as well as transactional streaming titles).
The data is in for the week ending October 2, 2022. The staying power of "Rings of Power" was fading last week, but "House of the Dragon" showed no signs of slowing down. Will it be the same this week?
In Australia, "House of the Dragon" was once again in 7th place, and once again "Rings of Power" failed to even make the top 10. About as good a sign as orcs showing up in the Southlands. It's also worth noting again that JustWatch only counts streaming data, so there's actually more people not being included here who are watching "House of the Dragon" on traditional cable - there is no traditional cable audience for "Rings".
Again, neither show made the U.S. top 10 this week. I guess fantasy isn't a genre that's likely to dominate the US charts.
And finally, looking at the global situation, "House of the Dragon" was again on top of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power", but the Game of Thrones prequel slipped one place, from third to fourth. "Rings of Power" was steady at fifth.
Join us next week to find out if "Rings of Power" can leapfrog "House of the Dragon", especially after that last exciting 6th episode of the Tolkien adaptation.
