Some interesting movies, captivating documentaries, and a funny series about ghosts. These are just some of the highlights on Stan this past week.
The very funny Ghosts is back with a second season. The show follows a cash-strapped young couple who inherit a grand country estate, only to find that they have some uninvited guests.
There is also a new season of 60 Days In. The somewhat irresponsible series sends innocent people into American prisons to be snitches. I think I may have downplayed the "somewhat irresponsible" part.
A mish-mash collection of movie highlights this week, presented in no particular order.
Michelle Williams stars as the titular character in the fairly decent My Week with Marilyn. Belle stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw and if she looks a bit familiar, then it's because you might be recognising her from two recent streaming favourites, "Loki" and "The Morning Show".
The White Saviour trope aside, The Blind Side is a solid film that stars the always delightful Sandra Bullock.
Will Smith, Kevin Kline and Salma Hayek star in the fun-filled Wild Wild West - a silly historical inaccurate fun film during the height of Will Smith fever in the '90s.
And then there's the classic Deliverance. You'll never think about banjos the same way again.
The next block are some of the recommended documentary series and films from the past week. Nature fans should check out Shark with Steve Backshall. Speaking of sharks, the Australian surfing documentary Girls Can't Surf is a must-see.
And for every Cleo Smith story that has a happy ending, there's always another JonBenét Ramsey. Here are two documentaries on this sad story, Hunting JonBenet's Killer: The Untold Story and
The Killing of JonBenet: Her Father Speaks.
And for the kids (and big kids like myself who grew up watching the original), the second season of Animaniacs is here.
