It's surprisingly quiet in TV land, but there is a new series on Stan in the form of Ten Days In The Valley. Kyra Sedgwick's new show proved to be not as long staying as her last major TV project, and it has already been cancelled. So don't get too attached!
Movies are where "it's at" for Stan this past week, with a lot of great flicks to watch.
The sequel to averagely received 'Gnomeo & Juliet' arrives in the form of the even more average Sherlock Gnomes - I wouldn't even have mentioned it if it wasn't for the fact that it's such a new movie, and new movies are relatively rare on Stan.
That's not to say older movies are not worth watching, as the likes of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (U.S. version) and Carol, both of which star Rooney Mara incidentally.
I quite like the quiet, understated side of Johnny Depp and he's at his best in Finding Neverland as Sir James Matthew Barrie, the creator Peter Pan, in this delightful, touching and extremely well made film. Not quite as pretty is Sling Blade, which is too real to the point it becomes surreal. And if Billy Bob Thornton's accent seems familiar, then you might be thinking of Futurama's no nonsense janitor Scruffy Scruffington. Or the other way around, more likely.
Then there's the fascinating The Great Beauty from Italian director Paolo Sorrentino - well worth a watch!
