A new month and, as it has become usual at the start of the month, a huge list of additions available for instant streaming on Stan.
The headlining title of the week, perhaps even the month (and as previously previewed in our monthly what's new piece), has to be the now Oscar gilded Mad Max: Fury Road. That was probably the most well known of the new additions this week, but that's not to say there weren't other movies that you might want to check out.
Iconic British filmmaker Ken Loach's The Angels' Share is well worth a go, especially if you appreciate Loach's previous works ('Kes', 'The Wind That Shakes the Barley', '
Sweet Sixteen'). From one iconic filmmaker to another, perhaps far more controversial director, Gasper Noé's Enter the Void takes you on a dark journey into the underbellies of Tokyo, through the eyes of a deceased drug dealer. Yep, a typical Noé film.
Now to something not so typical, a film primarily featuring unsubtitled Ukrainian sign language. The Tribe is set in the insular world of an Ukrainian boarding school for the deaf. You'll never understand every little detail in the film, but this award winning film, while not for everyone, is definitely worth checking out.
For TV, you can catch the first season of the US series Under the Dome, a show with an interesting premise, another one from Stephen King that you can watch alongside the maestro's 11.22.63 (of which new episodes are airing weekly). Also worth a look is Steve Coogan's HAPPYish.
Documentary and film fans should definitely have a look at Hearts of Darkness: A Filmakers Apocalypse, about the troubled making of the classic Francis Ford Coppola film Apocalypse Now (the film is already available on Stan here).
