Foxtel and Presto have announced that Foxtel Platinum subscribers will gain access to the Presto Entertainment bundle for free as part of their subscription starting today.
Presto is co-owned by Foxtel, but up until now, Australia's premier pay TV provider has separated its traditional "corded" service and its new "cord-cutting" product. Foxtel has used its content connections to provide Presto with exclusive content not found on other SVOD outfits, but this latest move signals Foxtel's clearest intent to position Presto as the main competitor to the juggernaut that is Netflix. The move would also be a PR win for Presto, with an instant influx of "new" subscribers to boost the fledgling streaming service's numbers.
Both Foxtel and Presto's senior management teams were delighted at the link-up, which is set to give Foxtel Platinum subscribers (subscribers to the most expensive Foxtel plan) extra value for their money.
Ed Smith, Foxtel’s Executive Director of Sales and Marketing, hailed the move.
"Presto has been rapidly building a leading presence among Australian subscription video on demand (SVOD) providers through great content tie-ups and a library of hit programming that serves as a great addition to the amazing content already available both live and on demand via Anytime on Foxtel. As some of our most dedicated customers, we wanted to ensure that our Platinum subscribers weren’t missing out, so we’re thrilled to give them access to Presto’s great SVOD content as part of their existing Platinum subscription," said Smith.
Presto CEO Shaun James welcomed Foxtel customers to the Presto family.
"We welcome the addition of Presto for Foxtel Platinum customers as a great way to bolster their Foxtel subscription and make an already great entertainment experience even greater. Access to Presto has been a key priority for us and today’s announcement opens us up to an enormous fan-base who already knows the value of subscription entertainment. We look forward to broadening our availability even further in the coming months," said James.
