According to The Australian, Netflix may be coming to Australia (officially) sooner than you think.
Sources close to Netflix says that a launch may be "imminent", although Netflix remained tight-lipped when asked about an Australian launch.
"At this point we have not announced any further details about our international expansion," a Netflix spokesperson told Media.
Netflix has recently focused their attention on European markets, and have always been coy when asked about an Aussie launch. Australia being too small of a market, and issues with broadband availability have been cited as reasons for the lack of an Australian Netflix.
Australians currently can access Netflix using geo-unblocker services like Unblock-Us, but there has been a growing call for the subscription streaming service to extend their service here and offer an Australian-centric library of content. Consumer advocate CHOICE went out and officially endorsed the use of geo-unblockers as a way to access Netflix, after the company failed to respond to the group's call to clarify their Australian plans (if they existed in the first place). A recent report puts the number of Australians using Netflix via geo-unblockers at 20,000.
