June has brought cool winds and chilly nights, the perfect time to stay in, stay warm and settle into some exclusive premieres from Showtime on Stan.
Roadies (trailer) is the first original series from Oscar Winner Cameron Crowe, writer and director of Jerry Maguire and Almost famous, executive producer JJ Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), and Winnie Holzman (Wicked, Once and Again). Roadies feature stars Luke Wilson (Old School, Enlightened), SAG nominee Carla Gugino (San Andreas), Imogen Poots (The Look of Love), Rafe Spall(One Day), Keisha Castle-Hughes (Game of Thrones, Whale Rider), Peter Cambor (NCIS: Los Angeles), Colson Baker a.k.a. Machine Gun Kelly (Beyond the Lights),Finesse Mitchell (Saturday Night Live) and Ron White (Blue Collar Comedy Tour).
The series is set behind the scenes, following a group of roadies on tour with a successful rock band as they work backstage, putting a spotlight on the hard work, sweat and adventures of these unsung heroes. Life on the road can be reckless, romantic, funny and poignant, with only their de facto 'on road' family to share their common love for music.
Roadies will premiere exclusively on June 27, with new episodes available weekly after airing in USA.
The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth (trailer) is a real time documentary series on the ongoing 2016 US presidential race. Promising backstories to the attention grabbing headlines, it is produced in co-operation with Bloomberg Politics, and is a non-partisan, never-before-attempted take on one of the most fascinating elections in history.
The Circus will also premiere exclusively on Stan on July 1 with 12 episodes available at once, and subsequent episodes available every week in line with US broadcast and the Democratic and GOP Conventions.
Alongside Roadies and The Circus, Stan’s lineup of exclusive premieres this year includes the series return of one of 2015’s most talked about shows, UnREAL, on June 7, as well as new seasons of Stan’s most popular shows including The Last Ship, Power, Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, Ash vs Evil Dead, iZombie, and the Stan Original Series, No Activity.
This follows the success of the critically acclaimed Stan Original series Wolf Creek, as well as The Girlfriend Experience, 11.22.63, Billions, Better Call Saul Season 2, Containment, Mad Dogs, Blunt Talk and Angie Tribeca, which have all exclusively premiered on Stan in the first half of the year.
Fans of Daniel Craig also have reason to rejoice, for he will star and executively produce in Jonathan Franzen's novel PURITY, which has just been announced as a new limited series on Showtime. Todd Field (little Children, In the Bedroom), will write, direct and executive produce along with executive producers Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, David Hare and Jonathan Franzen. The series will be 20 episodes, and set to air over a two-year period.
David Nevins, President and CEO, Showtime Networks Inc.says "Jonathan Franzen's Purity is an epic American novel that pulses with the energy of a psychological thriller. .........PURITY promises to be the kind of taut, long-form, serialized storytelling that is the best of premium television".
Purity was first published in September 2015, and currently has a rating of 3.58 on Goodreads. Production of PURITY will begin in 2017.
