Winter is officially upon us in Australia and slipper sock sales just went through the roof. And if there’s one thing I love to do in slipper socks, it’s watch Netflix. So let’s take a look at what June has in store for us.
Waiting impatiently for an update on the inmates of Litchfield Penitentiary? Orange is the New Black Season 4 will be streaming from the 17th of June. Following the incarceration of Piper Chapman, an upper middle class New Yorker convicted of a drug-smuggling crime committed a decade before, the inmates of this minimum security prison take the viewer on a rollercoaster of emotions from hysterical laughter to a sucker punch of sadness. Starring Taylor Schilling and boasting numerous industry award nominations and wins, if you haven’t caught up with the ladies in orange, now is the time.
As far as other Netflix Originals, The Fundamentals of Caring is a drama worth checking out. If the fact that this film was an official selection at this year’s Sundance Film Festival doesn’t hold enough cred for you, then the fact that the always adorable and reliably excellent Paul Rudd (Ant-Man, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) stars should get you over the line. Rudd is Ben, a man who after experiencing enormous loss, becomes a carer for wheelchair-bound teen, Trevor (Craig Roberts). As the relationship between the two develops, both begin to see life from a new perspective. Catch it from June 24.
Fans of the series, Suits, will be pleased to know that Season 5: Part One will be available for streaming from June 25. Shameless, the series with William H. Macy as the perpetually drunk father of 6 now has all episodes across Seasons 1-3 ready to view from June 1. And those who are closet fans of Pretty Little Liars can get ready to closet watch Season 6 from the 4th of the month. Don’t worry, it’ll be our pretty little secret.
If you’re wondering how to get more Jon Snow in your life, then Pompeii is an excellent solution. Granted, the film has nothing to do with Game of Thrones but it does star Kit Harington so famed for the role of J. Snow. Also, it is set in ancient and brutal times reminiscent of G.O.T. and requires Kit’s character, Milo, to fight gladiator-style in attire that exposes the tremendous hard work he’s obviously been putting in at the gym. Other people are also in this movie but who cares? Jon Snow’s abs. The end.
In a similar gym-pumped vein, Magic Mike joins the Netflix line-up from June 1. Apparently, there’s a storyline but who cares? Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street) and Joe Manganiello (True Blood) as strippers. The end.
Fancy a trip down “holiday road”? It’s almost certainly not as good as the original National Lampoon’s Vacation starring the brilliant Chevy Chase, but this modern day redux starring Ed Helms (The Hangover) and Christina Applegate (Anchorman) is worth a gander just to know for sure. Mr Chase does make an appearance as Clark Griswold but this time, his son Rusty is at the wheel of the Family Truckster. You know hijinks will ensue because that’s the entire premise of the film. Fingers crossed the laughs follow.
