With summer officially over, Netflix has ramped up the offerings in March to maximise your downtime on the couch and there’s plenty to look forward to.
Fans of Frank Underwood (played by the incredible Kevin Spacey) will be relishing the new season arrival of superb political drama, House of Cards. When we last saw him, President Underwood’s life was beginning to implode and Season 4 promises to keep up the thrilling momentum of this darkly humorous ride through American politics. Look out for new cast regular, Neve Campbell (Party of Five).
Another series enjoying a devoted following is Suits, which returns to Netflix for Season 4. Mike Ross, a brilliant college dropout, and Harvey Specter, one of New York City’s best legal closers, become an unlikely but highly successful duo. Running from a drug deal gone bad, Mike finds himself interviewing with Harvey who decides to take a chance on him. Hijinks ensue. If you’re not currently watching, you have four seasons worth of bingeing to enjoy.
Also worth mentioning is documentary, My Beautiful Broken Brain. Regaining consciousness after suffering a haemorrhagic stroke, Lotje Sodderland’s world is suddenly and dramatically altered. In a story of hope and transformation, audiences will discover just how pioneering scientific research might help her brain recover.
Australian TV mini-series, Anzac Girls, is also new to Netflix in March. Starring Anna McGahan (House Husbands), the six-part series is the rarely told true stories of the nurses serving with the Australian Army Nursing Service at Gallipoli and the Western Front during the First World War.
Netflix’s reputation for championing comedy is well demonstrated by new series, Netflix Presents: The Characters. This innovative show described as “outlaw comedy” features eight up-and-coming comedians who have each been given a half-hour slot and full creative control to do whatever they please within those 30 minutes. With fresh talent including Lauren Lapkus (Orange is the New Black) and Saturday Night Live writers, Tim Robinson and Natasha Rothwell, The Characters promises to be compelling viewing.
And for an action hit, be sure to catch Marvel’s Daredevil when Season 2 arrives on March 18. If you’re unfamiliar with the back story, Matt Murdock is a lawyer with superhuman senses that were triggered after a chemical spill blinded him during childhood. By night, he is vigilante, Daredevil, delivering justice to the streets of Hell’s Kitchen. Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire) stars.
And finally, anyone? anyone? Bueller? Head down memory lane with Matthew Broderick (before he was Mr Sarah Jessica Parker) and experience Ferris Bueller’s Day Off in all its cult classic glory.
