Netflix is delivering loads of holiday cheer via its comedy-heavy offerings this December.
Highly anticipated is the Netflix Original A Very Murray Christmas featuring Bill Murray and an eclectic all-star cast including George Clooney and Miley Cyrus. This musically-driven holiday special is sure to please Murray fans everywhere.
Adam Sandler fans can look forward to the upcoming The Ridiculous 6, the first release of the exclusive four-movie deal the actor and producer has signed with Netflix. Starring Sandler himself along with Taylor Lautner (of Twilight fame), and long-time Sandler collaborator, Rob Schneider, Sandler fans should enjoy this story of an outlaw discovering he has five half-brothers. Netflix will be crossing their fingers that The Ridiculous 6 is well received after speculation that Sandler’s recent poor showing at the box office (Pixels took $23 million in its opening weekend, widely considered a soft debut) may mean the superstar has lost his touch.
Want more Rob Schneider? Netflix is now streaming Real Rob, the sitcom Schneider bank-rolled, writes, directs and stars in.
The comedy line up also includes the animated F is for Family, based on comedian Bill Burr’s childhood in the 1970s, as well as stand up specials I’m Brent Morin and Mike Epps: Don’t Take It Personal. And for those who like their comedy a little more quirky, Bojack Horseman: Christmas Special should hit the spot. This animated series’ titular character is voiced by Will Arnett who many will know from the cult hit Arrested Development (also streaming on Netflix). Another welcome comedy inclusion - John Cleese’s classic series, Fawlty Towers.
True crime fans should tune in on December 18th for the worldwide release of Making a Murderer, a 10-part original documentary crime series from directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos. A true tale with so many twists it feels like fiction, Making a Murderer follows the incredible story of Steven Avery, who after 18 years in prison was released when DNA linked the crime to another man. That he ends up the prime suspect on another murder investigation is just one of the reasons this story makes compelling viewing.
Feature film Aloha (starring Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone) is streaming from December 10th, while thriller, Non-Stop, will be available from the 27th.
Hugely popular Homeland Season 4 is now available to Netflix subscribers as is Zoo, the sci-fi drama based on James Patterson’s book of the same name.
And rounding out the silly season viewing are the inclusion of Christmas family favourites, Elf (with Will Ferrell) and The Polar Express (with Tom Hanks).
