Australian streaming outfit Stan and Sony have announced a major partnership, as the official Stan app has just been made available on Sony's PS3 and PS4 consoles.
The availability of the official Stan app on the PlayStation consoles means the Australian streaming service has managed to beat Foxtel backed rivals Presto to the punch - there are currently no plans for Presto to be made available on the PS3 or PS4. A Netflix app has been available on the PS3/PS4 since the launch of the Australian version of the streaming service, with the PlayStation consoles considered to be the flagship app platform for Netflix (it is where Netflix releases new versions of its app first).
Stan's CEO Mike Sneesby was expectedly excited at the link-up with Australia's most popular game consoles.
"Our partnership with PlayStation brings Stan to the highest selling game console in Australia. We are thrilled that new and existing subscribers can now access Stan’s library of award winning TV shows and box office hits directly on their PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4," says Sneesby. "Launching Stan on PlayStation is a significant milestone in our roadmap as we bring Australians more ways to access our exciting line-up of content in HD on the big screen."
Michael Ephraim, Managing Director at Sony Computer Entertainment, also welcomed the new partnership.

To celebrate the Sony/Stan cooperation, customers who spend $30 or more on any eligible PlayStation product at participating retailers, including JB HiFi, Target, Big W, EB Games and the PlayStation store, will be entitled to a three month bonus Stan subscription for new subscribers aged over 18.
