The Q1 2026 stats are out for the Australian streaming scene, and the rise and decline of two platforms offer a stark comparison.
Thanks to data provided by streaming search engine JustWatch, we can finally see just how well each streaming service is doing in Australia for the first quarter of 2026.
Apple TV has gained enough subscribers to be added as a new named entry in the chart above, an emerging power player in the more and more competitive Australian streaming scene. Apple TV now commands a 7% market share, beating the likes of 7plus, HBO Max, and almost on par with Binge.
Binge, despite losing HBO content, has held up well thanks to its stable of licensed content and content from Foxtel - it held steady at 8%.
The surprise here is the decline of HBO Max, from 3% market share to just 1%. The release of "A Knight of Seven Kingdoms", the Game of Thrones spin-off which was exclusive on the platform, didn't seem to help, so all hope is on the upcoming third season of A House of Dragons to see if the platform can get a lift. Likewise, the enormously popular and award favourite "The Pitt", also didn't move the needle.
Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ still hold a large chunk of the Australian streaming scene, although they all recorded drops in market share (2%, 1%, and 2%, respectively). Paramount+ was steady at 9%.
In terms of changes in market share through the first part of 2026, this is reflected in the second set of graphs shown below, with monthly changes shown in a slightly magnified fashion to show micro changes.
It's a lot easier to spot trends with the above set of graphs. Netflix, Prime, Disney+ and HBO Max on the slide, Paramount+, Binge, 7plus holding steady, and Apple TV, Stan, picking up the slack.
Apple TV shows like "For All Mankind" have helped the platform gain market share in Australia.
