The Q3 2025 stats are out for the Australian streaming scene, and the decline of one platform helps a couple of others.
Thanks to data provided by streaming search engine JustWatch, we can finally see just how well each streaming service is doing in Australia for the third quarter of 2025.
These are the first set of results where HBO Max, first known as HBO Max, then known as Max, and now known as HBO Max again, is reflected in the market share results. With HBO content moving from Binge to HBO Max, you'd expect Binge to be losing market share to HBO Max, and that is reflected in the data, albeit not as significantly as one might expect.
Binge lost 1% in market share, and HBO Max debuts with 1%. Heavy discounting by Binge and their exclusive content may be helping the platform to retain market share, while HBO Max really needs a big show like a new Game of Thrones to launch the platform. The holiday period should also help with new user acquisition.
Netflix dropped 1%, Prime Video too. Disney+ remained steady, the same with Stan and Paramount+. New to the chart, 7plus has been separated out from the "Other" category due to its growing market share, and "Others", most likely including the likes of Apple TV and Hayu, dropped from 7% to 5%.
In terms of changes in market share through the first 9 months of 2025, this is reflected in the second set of graphs shown below, with monthly changes shown in a slightly magnified fashion to show micro changes.
It's a lot easier to spot trends with the above set of graphs. While Netflix is still the most dominant player on the market, the increased competition is definitely eating into its market share. Second-played Prime Video remained largely steady. Disney+ continues to grow its market share, now that it's filled with ESPN sports content. The same can be said of Stan, the new home of Premier League football, along with Champions League football and many other competitions and sports. Its market share has steadily grown throughout the year, but still quite far away from challenging the likes of Netflix, Prime and Disney+.
Binge's decline is easy to see - it's probably the one that will struggle the most in the coming year as well. Paramount+ is still growing steadily. 7plus has remained steady, even if the previous graphs didn't sepearate it out. While the rise of HBO Max is also evident on the above graph.
