Quickflix is Australia's premier subscription streaming service. While it doesn't have the catalogue depth of Netflix, it is for the time being, the best local option available. This FAQ style guide hopes to answer the most common questions about what Quickflix is, and why you will want it, concentrating mostly on the streaming part of Quickflix (for obvious reason!).
A Quickflix subscription actually includes access to three separate services. One is a by-mail disc rental service, the other is a subscription streaming service, and lastly, you have access to a "pay per play" service (you do not need to have a subscription in order to access this last service).
Quickflix Post is Quickflix's by-mail disc rental style service. This service allows you to rent DVDs or Blu-rays via their website and have it delivered, by mail, to you. You can then keep the disc for as long as you like, but depending on which plan you've chosen, you may not be able to rent another one until you return the disc. You return the disc also by mail via the included pre-paid envelope.
The subscription streaming service, dubbed Quickflix Play, is now included with every Quickflix plan, allows you to instantly access a huge library of movies and TV shows using your Internet connection. There's no limit to what you can watch, and new content is added all the time. Included titles mostly feature classic movies and TV shows, including the much sought after HBO collection. The Quickflix app is available on many devices, including PCs and Macs, the iPhone, iPad, the PS3, Xbox 360, and selected Smart Blu-ray players and TVs.
And finally, you have access to the Quickflix Pay Per Play service. This delivers the movie in the same way as Quickflix's subscription streaming service, via the Internet and the Quickflix app (although device support is not wide spread as Quickflix Play), but you pay for each time you watch the movie. You have 48 hours to watch the movie after your order, but you can watch it as many times as you want on the same device within the 48 hours. You do not need to have a Quickflix subscription in order to access this service. Many new release movies are included as part of Quickflix Pay Per Play, as well as the HBO hit Game of Thrones, fast-tracked straight from the US.
As of May 2013, there are three Quickflix subscription plans available, the difference is in how many discs you can rent at the same time. All plans includes unlimited streaming via Quickflix Play:
