Let's once again take a look at what's been happening on Stan this past week, which has seen new series and some pretty kick ass movies being added.
New series The Bold Type and Hit & Miss. The former follows three competitive, fierce, fantastic friends as they navigate life in New York, working for the glamourous women’s magazine Scarlett, while the latter is a UK mini-series about a transgender contract killer who reconnects with her ex on news that she has fathered a son.
There are some pretty great movies that has just been added to Stan. Adam Sandler may be ridiculed these days for his continually declining quality in terms of his output, but it's easy to forget that he does have a quality portfolio of work, and perhaps none greater than Punch Drunk Love. Sandler is perfectly cast in the role of Barry Egan, in my opinion.
Not perfectly cast is The 15:17 to Paris, Clint Eastwood's latest sojourn into patriotic filmmaking, and starring the actual heroes on that fateful train. This latter casting decision may have cost the film dearly when it came to critics, who didn't really warm to the overtly religious, sentimental undertones. Thank goodness for professional actors, one review for the film read.
Cold Mountain may be set in the time period just after the American Civil War, but its themes may be timeless. To be honest, I don't remember much about the film having viewed it ages ago, but I do remember it was good, so there's that.
And finally, a trio of World Movies that come highly recommended, including the Thailand production Bad Genius that has a distinct Aussie flavour; the Brazilian comedy drama The Second Mother; and the Wim Wenders West German classic Alice In The Cities.
