Once again we look forward to another month of new content on the US version of Netflix. To watch US Netflix here in Australia, you'll need a geo-unblocking service, which also allows you to access Netflix Canada, UK, and dozens of other Netflix regions, switching between each region instantly. There are many geo-unblocking services, but Unblock-Us is highly recommended due to its reliability, performance and ease of use (a simple change to your DNS settings is all that's needed - ensuring this works on devices that don't support VPNs). The same subscription also allows you to sign up to and watch Hulu (additional subscription fees may be needed for Hulu Plus), and dozens of other streaming services from around the world.
The first update of 2018 has plenty for everyone looking for a classic, a new release, or an new binge worthy show to completely disrupt your sleep patterns.
January doesn't seem too many new Netflix Original shows, but there are a couple that have new seasons. Season 3 of 'Lovesick' arrives on January 1st, and the second season of 'One Day At A Time' gets uploaded on January 26. From January 5, you'll be able to stream every episode of 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee' featuring Jerry Seinfeld, thanks to a new deal between the renowned comedian and Netflix.
Movie fans will have a lot to look forward to in January as well. For fans of new releases, 'Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie' (arriving January 10) and 'Cars 3' (arriving January 31) are two 2017 favourites coming to Netflix, with the latter still actually selling well on Blu-ray over in the U.S.
There are also lots of classic favourites that are being added, with most coming on the first day of the month as is the custom with Netflix. Some of these will have been available on Netflix before being removed, and now re-added, but all are worthy of a re-watch from now and then. 'Apollo 13', 'Breakfast at Tiffany’s', 'Lethal Weapon' 1-4 and old favourite 'The Shawshank Redemption' are all added on January 1. The Godfather Trilogy also arrives on the same day, or rather, two really great Godfather movies and a relatively (stressing the term "relatively") disappointing third movie.
As usual, there are some great movies and TV shows leaving Netflix in January, so if you still have time, it might be a good idea to finish these first if you're in the middle of them. Movies like 'E.T. the Extra Terrestrial', 'Forrest Gump' and 'Pulp Fiction' leave on January 1, while the complete series of 'Lost' leaves on January 4. And bad news everyone, Seasons 7 to 10 of Futurama leaves on January 30.
