It's a brand new year on Netflix, and the "what's new" list is chock-a-block with new stuff, old stuff and some must-see stuff.
Without wasting too much time, let's get to the good stuff, starting with original and exclusive Netflix series. The second half of the first season of 'Star Trek: Discovery' continues beginning January 8 and continuing every Monday, as we catch up again with Captain Lorca, Michael Burnham, Saru and Ash "Voq" Tyler (yeah well, if he isn't *him*, then where the hell is Voq?).
'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Collections' proves comedy can happen anywhere, while a new season of 'Grace and Frankie' ups the pressure to either re-watch the previous 3 seasons of the great show to catch up or to start watching it from the beginning for the first time now that your umpteenth friend has recommended it to you. The binge version of FoMO.
Other TV highlights include the sixth season of Suits, or now forever known as the TV show with that British royal in it (for those living under a rock, Meghan Markle, who stars as Rachel Zane in the show, is to be the future Mrs. Prince Harry), and the always watchable 'American Horror Story', this time in the new 'Roanoke' series. Presented in a slightly different format than previous AHS seasons, the 'Roanoke' series is based on the true historical story of the Lost Colony of Roanoke where the residents of an entire colony disappeared without trace back in the 16th century. Intriguing stuff.
There are some big, and in one case, really really big, movie additions in January as well. Disney will soon take on Netflix directly, but before then, the two companies have a deal together and that deals this month brings 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' for our instant streaming pleasure. Also from 2017 is 'Kong: Skull Island', the latest take on the ape with the most is not a bad one. Not a great one mind, but not a bad one either.
Classic movies in 'Groundhog Day' and Australia's own 'Mad Max' join the mix in January. The former is one of those movies you can watch over and over again and never get bored, except for the Sonny and Cher song 'I Got You Babe'. As for the original 'Mad Max', I don't think I need to say more really.
