It's the beginning of the silly season and Netflix has pulled out all the stops in this wonderful selection of shows, bursting with much loved originals in its stables, as well as a huge spread of family entertainment to keep your little ones occupied.
The brightest jewel goes to The Crown S2 (trailer), finally gracing our screens on Dec 8. The royal family embark on a new era in post war Britain – as this series embraces the 1960s mood and its challenges. In this second decade of Queen Elizabeth's reign, we might even see President John F Kennedy snd his glamourous wife Jackie Onassis.
Dark S1 (trailer) – German series, a mystery drama set in a small town which kicks off when children are missing. However it's not clear whether the questions should focus on whom, but when.
Ultimate Beastmaster returns with a cracker of a season 2, over 100 athletes from six countries vie for the title of Beastmaster by conquering the obstacle course shaped like a skeleton of a beast. Netflix's version of this popular TV format has a great localised twist, with six set of hosts delivering commentary to suit different languages and audiences. Take a peek (trailer).
Comedy greats Judd Apatow, Dave Chappelle, Craig Ferguson and Russell Howard, also come to visit in exclusive Netflix specials.
Weekly episodes continue to keep us company, as Thursdays bring Designated Survivor: S2, Dynasty: S1, Riverdale: S2, and Chelsea S2 welcomes her entertaining guests on Fridays. Come Dec 22, we'll have new eps of Fuller House S3.
Children are in for a treat with a LOT of animated Lego series, such as Friends, Ninjago, and Marvel. Younger ones might like the animated Boov special – Dreamworks Home for the Holidays exclusive (trailer), The Storybots Christmas (trailer), and even a Trolls Holiday Special (this trailer is fairly long but it's a great lead in).
Couple of classics to remind you of days gone past – Jingle All the Way (1996), It’s a Wonderful Life (1947), Beethoven's Christmas Adventure (2011) and White Christmas (1954).
Some really great choices for the adults as well, including The Danish Girl, with double Oscar winners Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander (2015 - trailer), The Revenant (2016 - trailer), which was Leo DiCaprio's hard won Oscar nabbing performance. Last year's smash comedy hit, Daddy's Home (trailer) – what could go wrong with Mark *bad boy* Wahlberg and nice everyman dad Will Farrell pitted against each other to win children's affections?
If you're in the mood for something not so Christmassy, wait up for Bright (trailer), as Will Smith teams up with Joel Edgerton in a cop partnership that's not what you expect. Humans live alongside orcs, trolls and Fairies, and come together to as a war breaks out over a new weapon. For something with more depth, choose The Dark Knight (2008 - trailer), the second film in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. Or maybe Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015 - trailer).
