If you’re looking to enjoy the last month of winter cosy and warm indoors then you’re clearly going to need premium streaming content to keep you company. This August, Netflix US caters to those searching for a new series as well as those wanting a movie to go with their popcorn. Let’s check out some highlights.
It’s a who’s who of hilarious in Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later (Season 1). While 2015’s Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp was a prequel to the original 2001 film, Ten Years Later is set – naturally – 10 years after. The campers and counsellors are back together for the decade reunion they promised one another they’d have. The cast features some of the funniest names in Hollywood including Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation) and Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games).
Kicking off its debut season is Marvel’s The Defenders. Comic buffs will be thrilled to have Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) teamed up and ready to fight crime in the Big Apple. Used to fighting crime alone, the four superheroes will discover whether they work better together.
Atypical is a new series that tells the story of Sam (Keir Gilchrist), an 18-year-old on the autism spectrum. When he decides he wants a girlfriend, Sam and his mother must navigate this new path to independence. Streaming from August 11.
Enjoy an ultra-binge on the mind-bending movie trilogy, The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. Starring Keanu Reeves (To The Bone) as computer hacker Neo, Laurence Fishburne (Batman v Superman) as Morpheus and Carrie-Anne Moss (Jessica Jones) as Trinity, the original film won Oscars for its incredible visual and sound effects. And here’s a piece of trivia for you. At the time, the movies were credited to The Wachowski Brothers but have since been altered to reflect the transgender writer/directors who now go by the names Lana and Lilly Wachowski. They have gone on to create Netflix Original series, Sense8.
And from prolific creator/producer Chuck Lorre (Two and a Half Men) and writer David Javerbaum (The Colbert Report) comes new Netflix Originals comedy series, Disjointed. It stars Hollywood veteran Kathy Bates (American Horror Story) as Ruth, a legalisation advocate who finally fulfils her dream of opening a marijuana dispensary in Los Angeles. Assisting her at Ruth’s Alternative Caring are her ambitious son and a team of young ‘budtenders.’ Stream Disjointed from August 25.
