Stan in February is bursting with new shows and plenty of exclusive content for your summer viewing.
Hot on the heels of the inauguration of the new President, Stan brings Trumped: Inside The Greatest Political Upset Of All Time on Feb 5. Coming from the team that took us behind the scenes with 'The Circus', this documentary will follow the rise of Donald Trump, from primaries, debates to the election night.
Billions (trailer) S2 arrives Feb 20, episodes released on Monday, same as Showtime in the USA. Bobby 'Axe' Axelrod plots revenge against US Attorney Chuck Rhoades, who finds his grasp on family and career loosening as he is under investigation. Emmy winners actors Damien Lewis and Paul Giamatti are a pleasure to behold, each playing light and dark with incredible subtlety. You're in good hands with Billions.
Another scoop for Stan is Imposters (trailer), which arrives on Feb 3. Maddie (Inbar Lavi) is a gorgeous, successful con artist who seduces, and marries her targets before cleaning out their bank accounts. However, three of her conquests have teamed up to try and catch her. Also starring Uma Thurman.
American Gothic (trailer) S1 arrives Feb 23 – a Boston family is rocked by speculations and discoveries which possibly tie them to a string of infamous murders. Are they being framed or is there a murderer in their midst? New TV seasons added are Beauty and the Beast S2, local production Love Child S3, Line of Duty S3, This is England '86 and This is England '88.
There are some excellent recent releases to peek through. There's Tarantino's latest offering Hateful 8, (2015), Triple 9 (2016), The Nice Guys with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe (2016), London has Fallen (Aaron Eckhart, Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman) (2016) and Grimsby (Sacha Baron Cohen, Mark Strong and Rebel Wilson). If you're in the mood for something fast and action packed, Jurassic Park Trilogy, and Steig Larsson's trilogy – Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, and Girl who played with Fire. I'm looking forward to Triple 9, which boasts a strong cast with Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Chewitel Ejiofor, and Kate Winslet as the mafia boss.
On the flipside, you could giggle and smirk alongside Austin Powers Goldmember and International man of Mystery (Mike Myers), Get Smart (Anne Hathaway and Steve Carrell), Kill Your Friends (Nicolas Hoult), and Stranger than Fiction (Will Ferrell, with Emma Thomson and Dustin Hoffman thrown in).
For family movie nights, you can choose (local) Paper Planes, or any of these popular additions: Wiggles, Sesame Street, Barney and Friends, Angelina Ballerina, Octonauts, Baby Looney Tunes and Pingu.
In World cinema, we have Boomerang, a brother and sister team retrace their mother's last steps to uncover how she died 30 years ago. There is festival favourite Amelie (Audrey Tatou), Korean drama Gangnam Blues (2015), set in 1970s in the Gangman district which is the backdrop for two rival gangs.
