Stan in October keeps up its cracking pace with plenty to keep you entertained, and lots in store for you this month. Returning to Stan exclusively, Will and Grace S2 premiers on Friday (October 5), bringing back its whip smart comedy and fantastic fun. Monday is the busiest day, with Get Shorty, America to Me, Warriors of Liberty City, The Last Ship, and The Circus continuing. Tuesdays we have Better Call Saul, and Sundays Kidding with Jim Carrey.
Some fantastic picks in this bunch, such as CW’s 'The Flash' season 4, title character Flash/Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) returns with a lighter tone, facing an evil time remnant version of himself. Coming October 11.
In 'Insomnia' (from Russia), once a year, a high stakes game plays out, as the rich place bets on the contestants as they are set increasingly dangerous challenges. Kill or be killed, and don’t fall asleep. Filmed entirely in Moscow, with rare access to the Red Square, near the Kremlin and Bolshoi Theatre – this series will grip you from the first. All eight episodes drop on October 5.
Also from Europe, Germany's new series 'Deutschland 86' is a sequel of sorts to the successful 'Deutschland 83'. Cold War Spy
Patrick Dempsey (of Grey’s Anatomy fame) is Harry Quebert in 'The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair', the literary icon who is arrested under a cloud of suspicion when the body of a young 15 year old girl is found on his property. Based on international bestseller by Joel Dicker, we had four episodes teased in late September, and episodes will be released weekly on Wednesday from October 3.
For something homegrown, look up 'The Wrong Girl' S2. Gold Logie nominee Jessica Marais returns as the girl next door Lily Woodward a morning TV producer a lovestruck best friend, and a whirlwind romance that leads her to NZ with her new love Jack. Coming October 19.
Some really good picks in here – such as Margot Robbie’s smash hit based on American ice skater Tonya Harding. Supported by the gorgeous Allison Janney as LaVona Golden, Tonya’s determined and intractable mother, the biopic follows Harding’s version of events to the ‘incident’, the deeply tragic accident which befell fellow competitor Nancy Kerrigan. 'I, Tonya' is released on October 21.
'All the Money in the World' has a stellar cast, and they are in fantastic hands with renown action director Ridley Scott. As frantic mother Gail Harris (Michelle Williams) pleads to her father j Paul Getty (Christopher Plummer) for $17m when her son John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) is kidnapped and held for ransom. When that fails, she engages ex CIA agent Fletcher Chase (Mark Wahlberg). Kevin Spacey nowhere to be seen, just as it should be.
For a change of pace, 'Walk with Me' is the documentary narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes, Dr Strange) following the 91-year-old Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh, which has largely been credited for the mindfulness movement. Shot across three years with access to his Zen Buddhist community who have given up their material possessions in the pursuit of stillness, contemplation, and living in the present.
A couple of really familiar, likeable choices – 'Ella Enchanted' (October 2) for the princesses, Powerpuff girls for the kick ass action, and 'Spy Kids' movies (October 7) for action inspired tweens.
