Netflix Australia: What's New in August 2018

Poster for Disenchantment
Krystle Shrimpton Fri, 03/08/2018 - 15:09

Welcome to another fantastic line up in August. I had just finished Jessica Jones S2 two days ago, and am still pondering the ending of Dark. There's lots more to enjoy this month, and it there's some exciting new content to get carried away with.

Let's look at some of the Netflix original shows and other TV highlights.

Disenchantment (trailer) - Follow the (not) fairytale misadventures of a hard drinking princess Bean (Abbi Jacobson), her feisty elf companion Elfo (Nat Faxon), and her personal demon Luci (Eric Andre). With Matt Groening and Josh Weinstein executive producers, can't wait for August 17!

The Innocents (trailer): Two young lovers find themselves caught up in a kidnap plot – just as June is starting her new life in London. Unexpectedly, June begins to change before their eyes. Together they must figure out whom they can trust.

Flavors of Youth: International Version (Japanese, animated, trailer) - Released by the same studio as last year's critical success, Your Name, CoMix Wave Films comes to Netflix with the themes of food, clothing, housing, and transportation- weaving three independent stories in contemporary China.

To returning series, Ozark S2 (trailer) – Jason Bateman and Laura Linney anchor this series about a financial planner who uproots his family to the Missouri Ozarks, to hide his link to a drug cartel.

Meteor Garden (New Episodes in August - TBA) (Mandarin) An updated version of the hit Mandarin drama from 2001 will be released in Asia, mid July and continuing throughout August. Directed by showrunner Angie Chai, this new series introduces the classic love story to new audiences.

Mr. Sunshine (trailer) - Weekly episodes, this series following a Korean American U.S. marine returning to his homeland on a diplomatic assignment, (Korean) and falls for a noblewoman.

Kiddies and the young at heart will be spoilt for choice, with plenty more series being updated this month, such as Voltron S7, Pinky Malinky, the PonySitters Club, Dinotrux Supercharged: S3
Spirit Riding Free: 6, Ask the StoryBots: S2, Trolls: The Beat Goes On!: S3

Movies
Like Father (Netflix Original - trailer) – On the outset, a Kelsey Grammar, Kirsten Bell and Seth Rogan combination look like a fantastic mash up of comedy gold. Left at the alter and coming to grips with her new reality, the young executive forges a friendship with her estranged father, amongst all the crazy activities aboard the cruise that was meant to be her honeymoon.

Star Trek Beyond (trailer) – Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, and homegrown hottie Karl Urban, Acclaimed director JJ Abrams brings back this reboot, adding another episode to the Enterprise logs. Crashing into a mysterious planet, the crew fight their way to escape their new hostile environment, while eluding Krall (Idris Elba) who desires an artifact aboard the Enterprise.

Hot Fuzz (trailer) – Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and others (Rated R) "There hasn't been a murder in 20 years" - Oh yeah and here come the pile of bodies. Sergent Nick Angel is reassigned to quiet, low key Sandford, and partners with bumbling PC Danny Butterman. He's all over it though, to hilarious (and very inappropriate) good fun and lots of fire power!

See you next month!
