Stan's new releases in May is like your dependable bestie, full of great stories to entertain you, with plenty of new goss and funny anecdotes to keep you company. We have plenty on the regular weekly tv series such as iZombie, Billions, RuPaul's Drag Race, and Imposters, and Adventure Time.
Premiering on May 7, straight from USA, SweetBitter (trailer) starring Ella Purnell as Tess, a young arrival to New York who is looking to make a new life for herself. Tending tables in a busy restaurant, Tess's coming of age story is littered with new discoveries about herself and the New York she envisioned.
Also premiering on same day, Vida (trailer) comes about with two sisters who return to their hometown after their mother's death. Upon discovering their inheritance is tied up in the building and business, they must work through their differences and keep the bar business open.
Katherine Heigl returns to TV as fast talking defence lawyer Sadie Ellis, alongside Laverne Cox, (Emmy nominee from Orange is the New Black) in Doubt (trailer). Ellis begins an entangled relationship with client William Brennan, hiding her feelings and romantic involvement so as to not jeopardise her career.
For younger audiences, local best selling series Tomorrow When the War Began (James Marsden) with local talents will be available May 28 (trailer). Eight teenage friends celebrate their end of year holidays with a visit to 'Hell' Island, and return to their country town to find themselves in the middle of a war. Cut off from their family and friends, they band together to defend themselves and learn more about the other Australians who are detained.
Heaps of great movies to choose from; for more ridiculous Ryan Reynolds action and explosive moments with Samuel L Jackson, pick The Hitman's Bodyguard (trailer), or a redneck cash grab heist with Channing Tatum, Adam Driver and Daniel Craig, Logan Lucky (trailer).
From rom com director extraordinaire Judd Apatow, The Big Sick (trailer) has young lovers, interfering parents, a hospital stay, awkward dates, and great lines that will tug on your heart strings. Starring Kumail Nanjiani, and Zoe Kazan as the young couple, and Ray Romano and Holly Hunter as the slightly bewildered parents, it brings together shades of love in big and small moments.
Emma Watson and Tom Hanks are stellar in this techno-thriller offering. As the newest recruit to The Circle (trailer), Mae is introduced to a tech company which eventually releases SeeChange, small cameras which record residents in real time, in hopes of boosting new discoveries through transparent dealings and an all sharing knowledge base. A thoughtful treatise on the modern dilemma of trading privacy for individual brand recognition. Also starring John Boyega.
Family movie night pick, sorted - french spoken animated film My Life as a Zucchini (or Courgette in some countries) is a story of a young boy who is sent to the orphanage after losing both his parents. In new his home he has to learn how to love and trust again.
