Netflix USA: What's New in April 2018

We're officially a quarter of the way through 2018 already, but doesn't it feel like it's only just started? So for the fourth time this year already, let's take a sneak peak at what's coming to US Netflix in April.

Let's start with TV programming as we usually do, and the 'Original Series' of the month, at least according to Netflix's Facebook ads, is the remake of 'Lost in Space'. You already know people are going to have mixed feelings about this one, with many thinking did we really need to reboot the 60's classic, and others worried about having their childhood ruined or something equally ridiculous. Season 1 streams April 13.

You might also have seen the ads about how Netflix 'acquires' Seth Rogen, and that was for his comedy special 'Hilarity for Charity' (April 6). And yes, Facebook ads were also responsible for me recommending the new series 'Fastest Car', where supercars go head to head with "sleeper" cars, or cars that look ordinary on the outside, but are anything but ordinary where it counts. Should be a lot of fun. Season 1 streams April 6.

If you're in need of some new movies to watch, then April won't disappoint (to be fair, no month disappoints, especially if you're willing to lower your standards a bit ... or a lot).

The "newish" movies include the likes of 'Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest' (April 1) and 'Despicable Me 3' (April 5), but it's the older classics and giant bombs that holds the most interest for me. 'The Iron Giant' (April 1) falls clearly into the classics category, one of the best animated films you'll ever see in my opinion. And also relevant because The Iron Giant is featured prominently in the new film 'Ready Player One'. Also in the classics category is 'Scarface' (April 1) - so quotable, so good!

Few bombs come as big as 'Battlefield Earth' (April 1), but you'll have to watch it to decide if it's one of those "good bad movies", or simply just a "bad movie".

As usual, lots of content will be leaving Netflix in April, and by my calculations, you still have a day from the time this article was published to stream them before they're gone (some forever, some just for a few months). Good movies like 'Apollo 13' (April 1) and 'Kung Fu Panda 3' (April 26) are going, as well as tear jerking/inspirational films like 'Never Let Me Go' (April 1) and 'The Pursuit of Happyness' (April 1).

Here's a complete list of everything that's coming and going in April.
