Lots of new additions in this latest edition of our weekly "What's New on Stan" feature, where we take a look at what's been happening on Stan in the last week.
We start with TV additions as we usually do, and there are quite a few shows getting new seasons this week. But before we get to them, there is also a new "First on Stan" series, Rise. Starring Josh Radnor of 'How I Met Your Mother' fame, based on the best selling book 'Drama High', which was based on a true story. Radnor plays a teacher that takes over a school's lacklustre theatre department, and galvanizes not only the faculty and students, but the entire working-class town.
These shows are also getting new episodes: Call the Midwife; Luther; Elementary, and Orphan Black.
There are a few good movie additions as well. A superb Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington stars in Philadelphia, and it was no surprise at all that the former won an Oscar for his performance in this milestone of a film.
There's also the at times haunting, and no doubt divisive Sleeping Beauty.
While not director Neill Blomkamp's best film, Elysium does a more than passable job for those that need a hit of sci-fi.
The other film additions listed below all pretty much belong to the "good, but not great" category, with Goon: Last of the Enforcers also being in the "did it really need a sequel?" category.
