Hello, March! The seasons, they are a changing and so too is the streaming content on Hulu with a plethora of new titles on offer this month. New series, series returns and enough movies to binge until the end of your days. Let’s take a look at what’s hot.
Watch Hollywood’s finest sashay across the red carpet and into the 90th Oscars where they’ll all clap delightedly even when they don’t win the golden trophy. Australian actress Margot Robbie is up for Best Leading Actress for her work in I, Tonya.
New feel-good series alert! You know the one about the dedicated teacher whose arrival in a working class town reinvigorates the school drama department and restores the students’ faith in their future? That’s Rise. But expect some edge with all that heart because the series was created by Jason Katims who was also responsible for the much-loved drama, Friday Night Lights. Starring Auli’i Cravalho (you’ll know her as the voice of Disney’s animated smash hit, Moana) and Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother), this musical drama is sure to win fans.
Hard Sun Hulu Original Complete Season 1 arrives March 7. The British crime drama centres around two detectives whose diametrically opposed viewpoints cause friction when they are forced to work together. Set in a pre-apocalyptic world, the drama stars Jim Sturgess (Close to the Enemy) and Agyness Deyn (model turned actress).
Also check out For The People, the new legal drama from the TV writer/producer powerhouse, Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy). Set in the Southern District of New York Federal Court, brand new lawyers are tasked with handling the most high stakes and high profile cases in the country. In typical Rhimes fashion, the way their personal lives intersect with the professional is key to the action.
And Angie Tribeca fans, get excited for the series return. The complete Season 3 streams from March 10.
After the series was put to bed in 2016, American Idol is back! If you were missing the singing competition that kicked off a host of others around the world, get set to relive the magic but with one key change: laughing at awful singers who may or may not have a mental illness is no longer okay. The new show will ditch the exploitative gag of putting auditionees with zero talent in front of the judges just for giggles. Uber pop sensation Katy Perry is one of the judges along with classic crooner Lionel Ritchie and country singer Luke Bryan.
And for 31 days only, Dirty Dancing comes to Hulu. Yes, you read that right. It arrives March 1 and heads out again March 31 so have the time of your life NOW. Do not delay!
Music fans should note the arrival of Oliver Stone’s 1991 film, The Doors, starring Val Kilmer (The Snowman) in the role of charismatic but troubled lead singer, Jim Morrison. Music doco fans should note the arrival of Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man (2005) which features performances by musicians he influenced including Bono.
And finally, get you 007 fix with a bunch of Bond additions including A View to a Kill and Goldeneye.
