Netflix in September has plenty to keep us glued to screens, boosting its exclusive library with follow ups to Shooter S2, Chelsea S2, Rick and Morty S3, and A Good Place S2, and Fuller House. Let's jump in and uncover some gems.
Star Trek Discovery (trailer): Hold on tightly for September 24, exclusive to Netflix, new Star Trek series Discovery will be released worldwide. Championed by two awesome female leads, Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham aboard Discovery, and Michelle Yeoh as Phillipa Georgiou, Captain of Starship Shenzhou. Jason Isaacs is Captain Lorca of the Discovery and has a brief stint in the trailer. Season 1 will comprise 15 episodes, released weekly, streaming through to November and then picking up again in January 2018.
Nearly twenty years after Seinfeld series said goodbye, Jerry Seinfeld is back with an hour long special, performing standup at his launchpad, an intimate Comic Strip in NYC. Longtime fans will recognise some material, as Jerry Before Seinfeld (trailer) weaves in some older footage and spotlights hundreds of legal pads with every joke he's ever written.
Slightly quirky looking, Final Fantasy XIV: Daddy of Light (trailer) is in Japanese – a young man gives his recently retired father a PS4 and a copy of FF14 with hopes of reconnecting and drawing closer.
In Our Souls at Night (trailer), Hollywood legends Jane Fonda and Robert Redford drive off into the afternoon sun in this mellow, subtly arresting trailer. I don't know what it's about but it's fantastic to see comfortable chemistry and just *know* it's going to be good.
Just in time to whet the appetite for another Star Wars frenzy come Christmas holidays, Rogue One (trailer) is set before the original trilogy and comes across as a standalone movie. A band of unlikely characters come together as Rebel Alliance formulates a risky plan to steal the plans for the Death Star. Starring Felicity Jones.
Great Barrier Reef with David Attenborough: Event Series (trailer) - One for the curious and young at heart, let Sir Attenborough guide you and uncover secrets under the waves.
There's some excellent movies and crowd pleasers in the mix this month. For family movie nights, dive back into the wizarding world with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (trailer), a spin off starring Eddie Redmayne as Professor Newton Scamander. Once a throwaway line in one of required reading lists, J K Rowling published this book soon after the HP series was completed and it brings a fresh perspective to the lore. Set in New York, Scamander visit with his magical suitcase and soon finds himself on the radar of Tina Goldstein, a former Auror.
Now You See Me (trailer) Blink and you'll miss it, this glitzy movie is all show and keeps you guessing till the end. Four magicians stump the FBI as they seem to rob banks, and give away the money. Great cast including Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Jesse Eisenberg Morgan Freeman.
Children of Men (trailer) Set in the not-to-distant dystopian future, man's survival as a species is threatened as infertility strikes across the globe. Theo Faron is summoned to help a special group with precious cargo cross the border to the Human Project. Directed by Alfonso Cuaron. starring Clive Owen and Julianne Moore.
