Let's take a look at what's been happening on Stan for the past week.
For TV, there's the usual list of suspects when it comes to weekly new episodes (some of them took a break last week due to the U.S. Independence Day holiday). The only real "new" entry is the first season of the reality documentary show Catfish, based on the documentary of the same name. It chronicles the stories of couples, some of whom have been interacting for years via their screens, and what happens when they meet for the first time. Interesting stuff.
Movie wise, there are a few interesting picks. Nicholas Sparks fans will want to immediately check out The Lucky One (everyone else will go "oh no, not another one"). An American playing Robin Hood seems ridiculous, but Kevin Costner kind of pulls it off somehow in Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves (and if for nothing else, watch it for the Bryan Adams feature song - ahh, the 90's).
Rob Schneider is an animal, kind of, in The Animal, and Daniel Radcliffe is not Harry Potter in The Woman In Black. Becoming Jane is not based on a story by Jane Austen, but a story about Jane Austen - one for the romantic night in, I think.
Foreign film fans should check out Black or Pieta.
But my pick of the week would probably be Belle - some great performances coupled with a thorough examination of some very serious issues makes for a gripping romantic drama. A must see!
