A new month, a new slab of streaming goodness from our friends at Hulu. There are a bunch of new series, some fab Hulu Originals and retro movies to please every viewing whim. Let’s take a bite.
Most anticipated this month is surely the 4-part Hulu Original, National Treasure. Described as “riveting” viewing, it tells the story of much beloved comedian, Paul Finchley. In the twilight of his highly successful career, Finchley (played by Robbie Coltrane, whom viewers will best remember as lovable Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies) is accused of a rape that happened more than a decade ago. Though he strenuously denies the claim, the investigation uncovers more claims just like it. This story is based on the real life Operation Yewtree, the 2012 police investigation into the hundreds of sexual abuse allegations made against British TV presenter Jimmy Savile in the wake of his death. Streaming from March 1.
Another brand spanking new Hulu Original, Harlots: Season 1, arrives this month. Set in 18th century London, brothel owner, Margaret Wells, is struggling to raise her daughters. Executive producer Alison Owen says that Harlots differs in that it is told from a “whore’s eye view” – the perspective is wholly and solely female. Starring Samantha Morton (The Last Panthers), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey) and Lesley Manville (Malificent). Tune in from March 29.
If you’re looking for a spot of nostalgia, then check out The Karate Kid. All three of the original movies (starring Ralph Macchio) are available to stream this month. Or perhaps you fancy a spot of iconic Aussie cinema in which case The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is just the ticket. Starring Hugo Weaving (The Matrix), Guy Pearce (Jack Irish) and Terence Stamp (Smallville), it tells the story of two drag queens and a transgender woman who journey across the Australian outback to perform a show in Alice Springs. And though the fabulous costumes and catchy soundtrack may try to distract you, the heart of the story will get you right in the feels. Enjoy.
Uncensored with Michael Ware is a National Geographic TV series which takes viewers on an intimate and crazy ride across the globe with fearless journalist, Michael Ware. Best known for his unflinching work as a war correspondent, Ware says Uncensored is unlike anything he has ever done before. Over 8 episodes, he travels across the world to investigate everything from the witch hunts still being carried out in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea to the Night Wolves, a Russian Orthodox biker gang on the frontlines of Russia’s battle for Eastern Ukraine. The complete Season 1 is available to stream from March 8.
Future Baby is a fascinating documentary that investigates the future of human reproduction around the world. From the IVF doctors and researchers in labs, egg donors and surrogates, to the desperately hopeful couples pinning their parenting dreams on science, director Maria W. Arlamovsky explores what is possible now and what continued research and scientific breakthroughs may mean for the future of human reproduction. Streaming from March 13.
