Australians no longer have to resort to using geo-unblockers to access the Amazon Prime Video, as the shopping giant has just announced a global rollout of its streaming service that aims to take on the likes of Netflix and Stan here in Australia.

Amazon is also celebrating the launch by dropping the subscription price by half, to USD $2.99 (AUD $4.03 at the most current exchange rate), for the first six months. Prices will revert to the normal USD $5.99 (AUD $8.07) after this promotional period, which still makes the service cheaper than the AUD $8.99 entry price for Netflix.

Like the Australian version of Netflix, each region will have a different subset of content, due to geographical licensing restrictions. Those that use a geo-unblocker service like Unblock-Us will be able to switch to a different geographical version of Amazon Prime Video to access more and different content.

Just like with Netflix Original content, original Amazon content, such as the often pirated "The Grand Tour," "Transparent" and "The Man in the High Castle," will be available in all regions.

Those interested in signing up can do so on the new PrimeVideo.com website.
