Hulu: What's New in September 2016

Poster for Lethal Weapon TV Series

As the seasons change, so too do the titles available for your viewing pleasure on Hulu. Let’s dive straight on in and see what’s what.

For something fresher than fresh, don’t miss the live action/animation hybrid that is Son of Zorn. In a bid to reconnect with his flesh and blood son, animated Barbarian, Zorn, leaves behind his war-torn village and heads for suburbia. Voiced by funny guy, Jason Sudeikis (We’re the Millers) who got his start on Saturday Night Live, this new series promises to be unlike anything you’ve seen before.

Also spanking new is Hulu documentary, The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years. Available from September 17, the doco features found footage of the Fab Four as they toured the globe from 1963-1966 at the height of Beatlemania. In those three years, John, Paul, George and Ringo performed an astonishing 250 shows and acclaimed director Ron Howard (In the Heart of the Sea) presents rare and unseen footage of this incredible time.

Music fans may also care to know that The Voice (US) Season 11 premieres on Hulu on September 20. Or if you want your music in dramatized form, then Season 3 of Empire begins September 22. Empire follows hip hop mogul, Lucious Lyon, as his three children – and a disgruntled ex-wife – wrestle for control over his multi-million dollar business empire. Terrance Howard (The Butler) stars.

Now let’s head to remake town where the Lethal Weapon film franchise has been reimagined as a television series. With Damon Wayans (Major Payne) as veteran detective, Roger Murtaugh and Clayne Crawford stepping into Melb Gibson’s old shoes as the combustible (and ultimately suicidal) Martin Riggs, the unlikely partners mine similar territory to the movies and the early reviews are positive. Make up your own mind from September 22.

If you actually want to go back and relive some movie classics, then keep an eye out for the Audrey Hepburn/Gregory Peck slice of vintage delight, Roman Holiday. A bored European princess meets an American newsman in Rome and the rest, as they say, is gorgeous!

If 1953 was a little too far back in cinema history for you, then what about a mid-eighties blockbuster that turned a loveable Aussie larrikin into a major Hollywood star? Paul Hogan’s iconic Crocodile Dundee will surely seem dated in parts now and yet whatever made it funny then still seems to translate now. Crocodile Dundee II is also available this month but there are no guarantees that the sequel will still make you laugh.

From the 1979 musical Hair to Quentin Tarantino’s vampire flick From Dusk til Dawn, there are more movies than you can possibly watch in a month. Take a look at the full list below. But please note, the titles with an * are only available with a subscription to the Showtime premium add-on.
