Once again we look forward to another month of new content on the US version of Netflix. To watch US Netflix here in Australia, you'll need a geo-unblocking service, which also allows you to access Netflix Canada, UK, and dozens of other Netflix regions, switching between each region instantly. There are many geo-unblocking services, but Unblock-Us is highly recommended due to its reliability, performance and ease of use (a simple change to your DNS settings is all that's needed - ensuring this works on devices that don't support VPNs). The same subscription also allows you to sign up to and watch Hulu (additional subscription fees may be needed for Hulu Plus), and dozens of other streaming services from around the world.
March is a busy month for Netflix USA with a couple of huge season premieres and the usual host of other additions, some fabulous and some admittedly filler. But whether you take a chance on something new, revisit a classic or dive back into a new season of a favourite, there should be plenty to keep you entertained.
Generating most buzz for Netflix this month must surely be new seasons for original content, House of Cards and Marvel’s Daredevil. For those who like their drama witty, political and with killer twists, then Season 4 of House of Cards is your go-to pick for binge-watching. Kevin Spacey (American Beauty) and Robin Wright (The Princess Bride) are fabulous as Frank and Claire Underwood and though last season saw them reach the political pinnacle of The White House, the cracks were well and truly beginning to show. An exciting new season awaits.
The success of Marvel’s Daredevil in its first season proves that there is still an audience who like their heroes complicated but essentially good. You might remember Charlie Cox from his brief but convincing turn in Boardwalk Empire and now he is winning great reviews as titular character, Daredevil, a vigilante fighting crime in Hell’s Kitchen. Based on the Marvel comic, Daredevil is the alter-ego of Matt Murdock, a lawyer who is blinded after a freak accident during his childhood. Seeking justice via legal channels during the day and at night using his senses which were turbo-charged as a result of the accident, the story of the complex Matt Murdock makes for a dark and moody drama.
And examining the East Coast-West Coast hip hop rivalry that culminated in the deaths of rappers, Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur, is documentary, Murder Rap: Inside the Biggie and Tupac Murders. Using police case files, taped confessions and featuring interviews with key players, director Michael Dorsey purports to have the inside story right here.
In the world of film, classics Scarface (Al Pacino) and Groundhog Day (Bill Murray) have been added to Netflix’s comprehensive library.
Fans of the hysterical comedy series, Arrested Development, will no doubt be fans of Will Arnett also. Though essentially a comeback vehicle for Jason Bateman, who could forget Arnett’s brilliant portrayal of Gob Bluth? It seems fitting that Arnett should have his own show. Cue Flaked in which Arnett plays Chip, self-help guru who could use some help himself. Check out Season 1.
And though Netflix giveth in March, it must also taketh away. There doesn’t appear to be a whole lot that viewers will miss but perhaps check out documentary, Music for Mandela, before it leaves on March 18. From IMDb, “Combining striking visuals with freedom songs, pop music and hip hop, "Music for Mandela" is a stirring tribute to the man himself and to the ultimate power of music”.
