Netflix USA: What's New in February 2016

Fuller House
Angie Maddison Sat, 30/01/2016 - 15:52

Once again we look forward to another month of new content on the US version of Netflix. To watch US Netflix here in Australia, you'll need a geo-unblocking service, which also allows you to access Netflix Canada, UK, and dozens of other Netflix regions, switching between each region instantly. There are many geo-unblocking services, but Unblock-Us is highly recommended due to its reliability, performance and ease of use (a simple change to your DNS settings is all that's needed - ensuring this works on devices that don't support VPNs). The same subscription also allows you to sign up to and watch Hulu (additional subscription fees may be needed for Hulu Plus), and dozens of other streaming services from around the world.

February may not be a treasure trove of sparkly new content on Netflix USA, but there are definitely some notable additions worth checking out.

Judd Apatow fans will welcome the debut of the Netflix Original series, Love. Apatow’s previous work includes cult classic films, Superbad and The 40 Year-Old Virgin, which typically celebrate the underdog while examining their follies with embarrassingly close scrutiny. Love sticks to this format as it follows twenty-somethings, Mickey and Gus, through the pitfalls of intimacy and commitment. As is also Apatow’s style, the lead roles are inhabited by actors of relative obscurity, but fans of Lena Dunham’s incredible Girls (Apatow is also attached as a writer and executive producer) will recognise Gillian Jacobs who had a small but pivotal role in Season 4.

And anyone feeling nostalgic for the 1980s and in particular, long running series, Full House, will no doubt be thrilled that Netflix has resurrected the much beloved series in the form of Fuller House. Candace Cameron Bure (D.J.) and Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie) along with a host of original cast members reprise their roles although the story is now centred around a new generation so John Stamos (Jesse) and Dave Coulier (Joey) make a token appearance only. The Olsen twins are conspicuously absent.

Foodies can feast on Cooked, the four-part docu-series based on food writer Michael Pollan’s book of the same name. With the ultimate aim to get people back into their kitchens, preparing their own food, the series explores how ancient cooking practices have evolved over time and the impact this has had on humankind.

Two new stand-up specials will be on offer - Hannibal Burress: Comedy Camisado (Feb 5) and Theo Von: No Offense (Feb 26). Though markedly different comedians, each is known for their straight shooting style. Prepare to laugh AND be challenged.

Better Call Saul, a prequel to Breaking Bad, will have a built in audience of fans keen to know just who Saul was before he became Walter White’s dodgy lawyer. Season 1 arrives on 1st of February.

Movies on offer include Armageddon, the ‘save the planet’ sci-fi action film starring Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck, Charlie’s Angels (the sexy remake of the TV classic) starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu, and Full Metal Jacket, director Stanley Kubrick’s brilliant and brutal depiction of the Vietnam War.

Rather laugh? Check out comic geniuses Rowan Atkinson in Johnny English and Will Ferrell in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

And nothing lasts forever with Classic Dr Who: Collections 1-18 leaving as the new month begins, along with classics like The Terminator, Bad Santa, Rain Man, The Firm, The Hurt Locker and The Naked Gun trilogy (and a third). There will also be a lot less Pokemon and Sonic the Hedgehog.

The full list of added titles and those that are leaving are listed below.
