Netflix Australia: What's New in February 2018

Welcome to February with it's balmy nights. As 2018 starts to gear up, Netflix has come back from summer break with plenty of awesome content to keep us tuned in.

Rebooted series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy arrives on Feb 7, promising to be a new season of makeovers, laughs, and new beginnings. I'll grab the popcorn, you grab the chips!

Adapted from novel Altered Carbon (trailer) by Richard K Morgan, Takeshi Novacs wakes up in the twenty-fifth century, as his consciousness is transferred to a new body to investigate the murder of a rich patron, who has also reawakened in his new 'sleeve'. Looks promising in a hard core detective noir way.

In Seven Seconds (trailer), two-time Emmy award winner Regina King plays a mother who's teenager had been hit and critically injured by a white cop – setting of racial tensions amidst the investigations led by Clare-Hope Ashitey as the homicide detective on the case. Set in gritty New Jersey, this crime anthology series was created by showrunner Venna Sud and lands on Feb 23.

Welcome back to some returning series, Marseille S2, The Good Place S2, Riverdale S2, Dynasty S1, and welcome to the fold Coach Snoop (trailer), Ugly Delicious with David Chang and Peter Meehan (trailer) Damnation (trailer), Everything Sucks (trailer).

In When we first met (trailer), we have a classic guy meets girls play by play, except when Noah discovers a time machine and goes back to the first time he met Avery, to attempt to win her love and avoid being 'friendzoned'. Cheesy, sprinkled with plenty of heart and laughter, out in time for Valentine's Day.

My next guest needs no introduction – David Letterman returns to TV on streaming with Netflix for his monthly sit down and chat. Guest list includes Tina Fey, Barack Obama and Malala Yousafzai (trailer).

I've watched two TV anime versions of this so I'll say I'm fairly invested. Fullmetal Alchemist (trailer) is the manga story of two Elric brothers who seek the Philosopher's Stone after their failed attempts at Human Transmutation, to restore Alphonse to his body, and Edward his arm and leg. Even if you've not heard of this series, it's a compelling story and well paced.

Five guys go camping, and take a shortcut through the unmarked forest when they find themselves in sticky and potentially dangerous. Find out what happens next in The Ritual.

Little kiddies and young and heart will be delighted with tv series The Adventures of Tintin, S1-S3, and Garfield Show S1 – S2. Returning to fight another day, DreamWorks' Dragons: Race to the Edge: S6, Luna Petunia S1 and Greenhouse Academy S2.

There's a real mixed bag of movies coming this month, some big blockbusters like John Wick 2, Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Men Tell no Tales, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, The Boss, and a few that flew under the radar, including Nightcrawler (my pick), Sharknado 5, Bad Neighbours 2, The Notebooks, Sleepless in Seattle. Foreign Korean movie 'Forgotten' thrown in for a twist.

Have a good time and see you next month!
