Stan: What's New For September 12 - 18, 2017

It's time once again to have a peak at what's been happening at Australian streaming outfit Stan for the past week.

Two big new additions in TV land this week, one the complete series of a comedy great, the other a new anthology that will whet your appetite for all things Philip K. Dick just before 'Blade Runner 2049' hits the cinemas. The complete series of Parks and Recreation will make a helluva (7 season long) binge session, and if for some reason you've never seen an episode of the show, then what the hell are you waiting for!?! Watch it for no other reason than to gawk at a pre-hunk Chris Pratt.

The second big addition is Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams, based on the author's fantastic short stories (many of which have been converted to the big screen, including Blade Runner), this is an anthology of short stories that will have you thinking. Think Black Mirror. Think must watch. Also not to be confused with the 1984 classic of the same name, and the hit 80's pop song used to promote the movie but was actually a lot better than the movie (thanks the input from Giorgio Moroder).

There's an interesting bunch of movies to watch too. Date night is sorted, twice, with The Time Traveller's Wife and The Lake House - I'm a romantic at heart and so these two movies come with my full recommendation.

International film fans should check out Rouge. It's classified as a Chinese romantic ghost story, there's not even a hint of horror in this film, and if you're not intrigued already, there is something wrong with you.

More traditional horror is present in Stephen King's IT - this is the 1990's 2-part mini series (so perhaps it should be in the TV section instead, but alas ...), and so you might or might not want to watch it ahead of the recent, superior, cinematic adaptation. But Tim Curry as a scary clown? Yep, that works.

And in my personal "this is in my watch list because it has Bill Murray in it, has a good rating on IMDb, but I will probably never watch it" list, Broken Flowers.

Here's the complete list of the new additions to Stan for the week of September 12 - 18, 2017:
