It's a new year on Netflix, and the world's biggest streaming platform will be bringing out the big guns to welcome in the new year.

With downloads now a thing on Netflix (check out our new feature below which shows which new content has the download option), there are now even more ways to binge watch your favourite shows and movies on Netflix.

Let's, as always, take a look at the original content that will be coming to Netflix Australia exclusively in January. The headlining act for January in terms of original series has to be the debut of 'Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events'. Based on the wildly popular book series, and with a nod to the Jim Carrey movie of the same name, this darker interpretation of the original source material is already getting some good press. It stars the irresistible Neil Patrick Harris as the chief villain, and the complete first season of the new series will be streamable come January 13th.

Jason Momoa is back on TV (kind of) and back on land for a while before going back to the sea in the upcoming 'Justice League', starring in Netflix's new series 'Frontier'. The 18th century North American fur trade has never looked so interesting, with season 1 of the series streaming from January 20th.

In original films, the interesting premise of 'Coin Heist', which sees four unlikely high schoolers team up to steal from none other than the U.S. Mint.

Away from the originals, some big name movies are also coming in January, including the 2016 live action remake of 'Disney's The Jungle Book' (January 17), 'Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice' (January 20), and 'Marvel's Captain America: Civil War' (January 31).

Classic movie additions are aplenty, with 'A Fistful of Dollars' (January 4), 'Platoon' (January 11) and the 1982 version of 'Annie' (January 18) leading the charge.

Other notable additions include new episodes of 'Suits' (January 28), the complete season 1 of 'Fargo' (January 26) and the complete series of 'The L Word' (January 26).
